The Honda Civic Three-Door, Five-Door, and Hybrid

The EK was a popular vehicle, and Honda was quick to use the platform for more models.

Honda Civic 3 Door: Hatchback

The Honda Civic 3 door was a very popular car in the United States. The hatchback also helps cement Honda's reputation as a sporty compact car maker. The new hatchback is built at a plant in Swindon, England. Its 1.8L i-VTEC engine produces 140 horsepower, and the gearbox is available with a six-speed manual or i-SHIFT automated manual. Its interior features a leather wrapped wheel, leather-covered seats, and aluminum pedals. The rear seat folds flat, giving it the same cargo space as the Civic 5-door.

The first-generation Civic was introduced in 1997. This car was a hatchback with a 1.6L engine and was marketed in the U.S. as the "S" model. It has since been replaced by the Acura EL, and the new Acura CSX. These cars were also based on the Civic. They're still available, and Edmunds is the place to find out more about them.

The Honda Civic 3 door has been used in competitions since its introduction. The 5-door and Type R Concept were developed by Honda. The Civic's popularity in racing has spawned a range of different models. In Japan, the Honda Civic has competed in the World Touring Car Championship, and in the Japanese Touring Car Championship. Aside from the hatchback, the Civic is available in a five-door model. A five-door version of the Civic has the same dimensions as the Civic Type R.

Honda Civic 3 Door: Interior

The new Civic has a number of notable changes in the interior. The previous model featured a split bi-level speedometer and tachometer. The tenth-generation Civic has consolidated the instruments into one optional "Driver Information Interface," which incorporates a customizable 7-inch LCD screen. The dashboard is placed in the driver's line of sight. The front-seats of the Civic are folding flat, and the back seats have enough room for two adults.

The Civic Type S has the same platform as the five-door Civic. It has a sportier look, a lower cowl, and a retuned suspension. The Type S went on sale in January 2007 and is aimed at younger customers. It will join the Type R Concept and the 5-door. The first Honda Civic will be available in the U.S. in January 2007.
